How do you combine the modernist charm of a 1960s seaside resort with the nostalgic ideal of a classic beach hotel, without resorting to clichés? SeARCH has answered this question and won the competition for the new Grand Hotel ‘The Sant’ on Zandvoort’s boulevard! This Grand Hotel is more than just a place for hotel guests. It will become a vibrant meeting place for all residents of Zandvoort. With a fully transparent ground floor, a grand atrium, and a wide range of amenities including cafés, restaurants, wellness, sports facilities, and cultural spaces, the design invites locals to immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere the hotel offers. From breakfast in the morning sun to cocktails at sunset, this hotel will be a seaside living room where everyone feels welcome. An integral part of the design is a new type of beach pavilion where F&B takes a backseat to focus on a (winter) swimming pool and wellness facilities. This concept revives the old allure of Zandvoort: in the 1920s, hotels featured indoor pools, sea baths, cinemas, theaters, casinos, and even an indoor ice rink, all connected by a direct train line to Basel! ‘The Sant’ will contribute to a lively Zandvoort, a place where the community comes together, regardless of the weather or season.
