Branie

Located in the Southeast center of Amsterdam this project is part of a new developing residential area of Amstelkwartier. Being located in a mixed used area with close connection to the Amstel River and park Somerlust, Branie offers residents a high quality location for a dynamic life in the city center.

Amstelkwartier consists of 70 apartments varying in size from 40m2 to 60m2. Each housing unit is accessible through a so called ‘cut’ in the volume – an open space which gives the opportunity to residents to meet and interact with each other. The open character of the building is furthermore expressed in the façade with an optimal transparency to enhance the presence of daylight in the apartments. By way of shifting balconies a spacious outside area is added to each apartment. A common garden along the quiet side of the plot provides the residents with the opportunity to spend time outside. The building includes 500m2 of commercial space on the street level, common bicycle storage and one layer of underground parking spaces. Both the housing and commercial space achieved high sustainability performance by including passive and active measures such as optimal sun orientation, high quality and durable materials and alternative energy generation.
