KuBAaI Kulturquartier Bocholt

SeARCH is responsible for the masterplan of this vast project that brings back to life a former industrial area. The old cotton spinning and weaving mills now house a very interesting textile museum with a rooftop café and museum shop. Apart from the exhibitions, also events like fashion shows, concerts and workshops are organised. The area will count 400 new houses and over 11.000 m2 of office and commercial space and 7.000 m2 of cultural space with several educational locations, such as an art and a music school.

We designed a series of specific interventions, contributing to the gradual transformation of the area and increase public access to the riverbank. Evocative traces of this sites industrial heritage, such as brick walls, chimneys and machines are preserved and integrated within the architecture and public space. We designed two bridges in fully recyclable steel to minimize maintenance costs for the municipality. They allow pedestrians and cyclist to reach the newly designed seating area, ecological zone and playground.
